Recently I was asked to put together a list of tools and resources for a colleague who is just starting to get into web marketing and development. I had been meaning to write a blog post with a similar list, so it was a great opportunity to compile a collection of tools, resources, and articles that I find useful.
This is by no means any kind of exhaustive list of website tools. It’s a list of things that I personally use and find valuable. I also put it together mainly for the purpose of showing someone what it takes to run a successful website. I think that if you were to read all of the websites/articles on this list, you’d come away with a pretty good understanding of the various aspects that are involved.
First of all, I think it’s important for any web professional to have an understanding of HTML and CSS.
Codecademy provides a fun method of learning different web programming language. It’s just as good as taking a class, and it’s free.
W3 Schools is the standard place to look things up.
These are blogs that I check on a regular basis. I learn new things from them all the time.
Google Keyword Tool
These give a lot of insight into what it takes to run a successful website. I save especially insightful blog posts that I come across so that I can revisit them later.

I also tweet these kinds of links pretty frequently, as I run across them. I try to tweet links to resources that I think would help an amateur website owner so that you can learn these concepts and processes yourself.
