WordPress Websites

I recommend WordPress for the majority of small business websites. WordPress is the most user-friendly content management system. After your website is created, you will easily be able to make edits on your own.

Theme Customization

The quickest and most affordable option to start your web design is to get theme (either free or premium.) Shop around for a theme that you like, keeping in mind that it can be edited and customized to suit your specific needs. If you need something more specific, I can build you a completely custom theme, or a custom theme based on an existing HTML page or design mockup.

Plugins and Extra Functionality

Content management systems like WordPress have plugins, which are software packages that add extra functionality to your website. These can be anything from social media integration to design options to slideshows. If you have something in mind for your website, there’s probably a plugin for it.

Mobile Ready

As much as 50% of website views are now coming from mobile devices — smartphones and tablets. It is no longer an option to have a website that only works on computer screens. A responsive website will adjust itself when viewed on different screen sizes. When choosing a content management system and design, it’s essential to find responsive-ready software.

eCommerce

I co-created one of the first online ebook shops, and I am experienced with modern ecommerce solutions including WordPress with WooCommerce and robust solutions like Shopify.

Website Maintenance

You already have a website. You just need someone to manage the thing! If you know you don’t need a whole employee dedicated to managing your website, hiring a freelancer is the perfect solution.

These are some examples of things I can do to keep your website up-to-date and generating business for you:

  • Create new web pages and landing pages
  • Remove or update old web pages
  • Optimize web pages for better conversion rates
  • Create graphics and write copy for new promotions or other new content
  • Web design tweaks and fixes
  • Communicate with your web host to fix any errors or downtime
  • Create new email addresses
  • Create new contact forms
  • Make adjustments to onsite SEO
  • Email marketing
  • Install new plugins, themes, or ecommerce options for your CMS
  • Work in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP

I can work with any CMS (content management system), email marketing service, or other software that you currently have in place.

Technical Writing

A large part of the work I’ve done since 2000 has been technical writing, especially in software and ecommerce settings.

Technical writing is important for all products that require instructions. I can make technical topics easy to understand for the end user, eliminating frustration and increasing product satisfaction.

My technical writing service is for projects such as, but not limited to:

  • online or printed user guides
  • instruction manuals
  • technical FAQs
  • step-by-step website instructions
  • how-to guides, articles, or blog posts
  • software documentation
  • product documentation

Technical writing can be included with your website build or purchased as a separate writing service.
