I’ve been using Dreamhost as my web hosting provider for at least 8 years, maybe longer.
Here are some reasons why:
If you decide to sign up for a new Dreamhost account as a client of Zen Web Consultant, you’ll get:
Enter the code ZENWEB when you sign up.
Every website in the world is “hosted” on a server somewhere. That server is just where the website files are stored. When you view the website from your computer, your browser accesses the files on that server. (A “server” is just a fancy name for a computer that’s dedicated to serving up files to other computers.)
Some people have their own server that they maintain for their websites and other files, but if you’re not so technically inclined, you need to pay for a website hosting service. They will manage the server that your website is stored on. They will store the files and you get things like FTP access and CMS installations. You can also use their service to register your domain names, which is handy. In a nutshell, it saves you a whole ton of time and effort.
What about free websites?
Yeah, you can choose to skip paid web hosting and set up your website somewhere for free. However, this always looks far less professional. Usually you have to use their domain name (such as bluewidgets.tumblr.com) which makes it very clear to everyone that you’re not serious enough to get your own domain.
Even worse, you have limited control over your website. For example, lets say you use Tumblr or Weebly. What happens if they shut down? Your website disappears. Meanwhile, you’re stuck using their design templates and other limited features.
No worries. Website hosting and domain name registration are part of my services.
(And hey, even if you want to do it yourself, you can still get the discounts I mentioned by using that promo code above!)
